I survived--and actually LOVED my first Toastmaster's meeting with the Olympic Orators Club. I even participated in the Table Topics when the Table-topic Master called on me. [This is huge--being that public speaking is one of my greatest fears...but interestingly enough, I actually enjoy putting myself through the torture...once the task was completed I must admit].
Today's table topic was "finishing the story" which took place with a plane about to crash and the people putting on their parachutes ready to deploy, when they discover they are in Germany and the soldiers are patrolling the land we are about to float down to. The story ended up with some major twists and laughter as one girl led my pick-up into a cow pasture with no one around.
And the story goes... my team and I landed together in this STINK of a mess. However, instead of dreading the situation, we decided to ride the cows to try and find an escape route--using our parachutes to practice our roping skills!
Needless to say, I was able to speak over 1 minute and I received one filler word, "and" (but I only spoke for one minute!) The class voted and I tied with the most votes on the table topic of the day...probably for the random, wackiness of my story! Ha-ha! It's so hard to think of something to say when you aren't given any time to prepare!!! I guess I might be a little more creative than I thought! :)
Here goes Day # One of conquering a greatest fear! Can't Wait for next Tuesday for the torture to begin again!
