I was able to participate in a mock interview with a professional interview coach for my senior practicum and the information I received was well worth the sixty minute chat-session. I hope this helps anyone who like me, has had very little experience with interviews. I wish you the best!
- Follow this technique on all of your questions you answer: Remember, BLUF (bottom-line, up front) and SBO (Situation, behavior, outcome...they LOVE to hear personal stories in how you demonstrate these skills...describe them on EACH question!)
- This is going to sound completely ridiculous, but I can promise you it works wonders! Practice all ten interview questions listed bellow in front of the mirror LOTS of times. (you will see what your eyes tend to do as you speak and you can check your body language as you report). * Doing this for an hour or two probably helped me the very most.
- Tell me a little something about yourself--don't go into personal details about where you live, etc. Use this as a time to briefly explain your talents for the particular job--maybe if you just graduated tell your degree, and don't forget personal experience!
- Why do you want to leave your current job?
- Are you still employed and if not, why?
- Do you have any budgeting experience?
- Have you ever managed anyone?
- What are your strengths as an employee?
- What are your weaknesses?
- Discuss how you make important decisions
- Where do you want to be five years from now?
- What have been the biggest accomplishments of your career so far?
- What makes you the best candidate/ why should I hire you for this position?
- What is your philosophy on life?
