Simple Pleasures...Young Women's Conference

I just listened to the Young Women's General Broadcast for church. What an inspiring message given on the 13th Article of Faith, which states:

"We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things."

This is the theme for the youth of our church to live their lives by for the upcoming year. I love listening to the guidance for them--as I think many of their words are so important for me to live by as well.

Each speaker spoke about being honest, kind, and virtuous through service, good works, and love.

These were a few of my personal favorite quotes:

President Joseph Fielding Smith powerfully stated: (of the Holy Ghost) “Its convincing power is so great that there can be no doubt left in the mind when the Spirit has spoken.

So weather we are seeking to know if we are daughters of a loving Heavenly Father; if our life has any meaning, purpose, or value; if we are seeking to know the truth of one thing--or all things--we will receive a witness that will never feed a lie to us. We will have a sure knowledge of whatever we desire to know with nothing doubting. Pretty neat!

Elaine S. Dalton said:
"What can each of you do to be a guardian of virtue? It starts with believing you can make a difference. It starts with making a commitment. When I was a young woman, I learned that some decisions need to be made only once. Making decisions in advance will help you be guardians of virtue. I hope each of you will write a list of things you will always do and things you will never do. Then live your list."

She relates how she did this when she was a girl and how much it impacted her life for good--as she had already decided what she would do when she was asked to do hard things.

And lastly, I loved this cute story shared about honesty, as I see Little Alyse is already picking up on things her Momma does:

“A man … went one evening to steal corn from a neighbor’s field. He took his little boy with him to sit on the fence and keep a look-out, so as to give warning in case any one should come along. The man jumped over the fence with a large bag on his arm, and before commencing to take the corn he looked all around, first one way and then the other, and not seeing any person, he was just about to fill his bag. … [The boy then called out]:

“‘Father, there is one way you haven’t looked yet! … You forgot to look up.’”
